voxbox
The Voxbox is a reimagining of the electrolarynx, a device used to create a synthesized voice for those who have lost the capability to speak due to a damaged voice box.
rethinking design
what is it?
An electrolarynx creates a synthesized voice for those who have lost the capability to speak due to a damaged larynx.
This is done by pressing the device against the neck and sending vibrations through it to mimic the larynx.
why redesign?
Sound is intimidating to listeners.
Design doesn’t allow for multitasking.
Technology hasn’t been updated in years.
Focusing on a hands-free design helps the user focus on other tasks at hand. The inspiration board was my guide towards making the device visually approachable.
Prototypes helps us explore and understand the best way to position the electrolarynx components.
